This isn't 1992 where you have to edit your autoexec.bat to save as much as possible of those 640k. Just installing MPC-HC won't give you that. And you get other benefits like thumbnails in explorer and more. People usually use their PCs for more than just opening MPC, and I can tell you they will be very happy if some program that tries to play/access/convert a mediafile through directshow will actually play it instead of an error-message.
